Volunteer Opportunity: Legislative Advocacy Prep Day

Full Access is a nonprofit that provides case management services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). We’re hosting Legislative Advocacy Prep Day, a FREE event designed to empower the I/DD community to become effective advocates. The morning session, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, will be facilitated by Disability Rights Oregon, covering the legislative process and key legislation affecting the I/DD community. From 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, volunteers will help attendees craft and practice impactful testimonies for legislators.
What you’ll be doing (1:00 PM - 4:00 PM):
- Work in a 2:1 ratio with attendees to help them create short, impactful speeches for legislators
- Guide participants through mock interviews to practice delivering their testimonies
- Support the Disability Rights Oregon speaker, who will be available to provide tips and answer questions as needed
Important Notes:
- You do NOT need to have prior experience or know how to speak to legislators. While that’s helpful, a representative from Disability Rights Oregon will be providing tips and tricks on how to write testimonies and will be there throughout the afternoon to support both volunteers and attendees.
- Volunteers are not expected to facilitate the training but will work alongside attendees to help them apply what they've learned.
