Volunteer Positions Available for Individuals and Groups

Campus Beautification Volunteer

A Volunteer helping with campus beautification will perform many tasks that may include: helping clean our Behavioral Health lobby and our Homeless Prevention & Rehousing office, picking up trash around sites, trimming trees, clearing away debris and brush, planting new growth, addressing walking hazards, painting outdoor surfaces and generally beautifying ShelterCare’s outdoor spaces.

 

Community Builders

A Community Builder volunteer helps our clients to engage in group activities with at least one other person, meaning the volunteer. This can look like doing a puzzle, playing a game, making a craft or just talking with a client in the hopes of giving them some interaction and socialization.

 

Skill Sharing

The role of a Skill Sharing volunteer consists of: skill sharing work to help our participants gain and practice necessary skills to live a balanced life in our community. This can look like:

  • Sharing recipes that are affordable and easy
  • Teaching budgeting and/or tax filing
  • Sharing how you use public transit to its full advantage
  • Showing how to create a wardrobe for a job
  • Sharing how to thrift pieces that can be used in multiple ways
  • Teaching job interview skills
  • Teaching personal enrichment skills such as cooking, gardening, sewing and music.

 

Admin Help

As an admin helping volunteer, your role consists of: filing and uploading documents electronically, addressing and stamping envelopes and shredding documents that need to be safely disposed of.

 

Handy Helpers

As a handy helper volunteer, you may:

  • Help by washing company vehicles that are used to transport program participants.
  • Clean campus’ windows or doors
  • Organizing inventory within the program office sheds
  • Power washing exterior buildings
  • Fixing or building new garden beds
  • Assisting in reattaching knobs, nails etc.

 

Reflections

This volunteerism project will be at the sites where program participants are most interested in beautician services; STH, SMR, Ulhorn, Afia and rivercourt. A reflection volunteer helps by providing hair washes, hair cuts, nail trims, manicures and pedicures to clients.

 

Donation Help

The volunteer will need to sort through donations determining what meets our quality standards and what does not, as well as sizing the items we do keep on hand. This also includes disposing of any food donations that may be expired.
